Basic Functions of MLS Giovanni

Plot TypeDescription
Vertical Profile, Parameter vs. PressureThis function displays "Parameter vs. Pressure" vertical profile(s) for the selected parameter(s). The three closest vertical profiles are shown that are within 1500 km of the selected lat/lon point.

In the MLS data files, retrieved geophysical data values are accompanied by Estimated Precisions. The profiles are properly screened by the Status Flag, Quality Flag, and Estimated Precisions as recommended in the MLS Data Quality Document (PDF) which provides detailed information about the quality of measurements of each species.

Basic Options of MLS Giovanni

OptionsDescription
Orbit SelectionThis option allows one to select those profiles along either the ascending (day) portion of the orbit, or the descending (night) portion of the orbit. The default is to show both ascending and descending profiles.
Search RadiusOne can limit the search radius for finding profiles to either 500 km (default), 1000 km, or 1500 km.
Max. Number of ProfilesThe maximum number of returned profiles can be set using this option (from 1 to 6). The default is to display up to 3 profiles on the plot, or ASCII output.
